A Martini in formal dress — gin and dry vermouth trimmed with maraschino, orange bitters, and a breath of absinthe. Pre-Prohibition elegance.

1. 1½ ozGin
2. 1½ ozDry vermouth
3. ¼ ozMaraschino liqueur
4. 2 dashOrange bitters
5. AbsintheTo rinse the glass

Served up

Rinse a chilled coupe with absinthe and discard the excess. Stir the rest with ice and strain into the glass. Garnish: Lemon twist and cherry.
